Khandala is one of the important hill stations in the state of Maharashtra and because of which, it is the pride of Sahyadri Mountains. The origin of the place is obscure. Chattrapati Shivaji, the founder of the first Maratha Empire, ruled the area around Khandala. Later it came under the Peshwa rulers, who founded the second Maratha Empire. It was finally taken over by the British when they defeated the Peshwas.

Geographical Location

Geographical Location of Khandala is in the western part of the state of Maharashtra, in the western region of India. It is set at a height of 625 m they are located on the western slopes of the Sahyadri mountain range, beautifully located amongst the hills and valleys of the Sahyadri. It is situated 69 km from Pune and 101 km southeast of Mumbai.

From Lonavala, which is another exotic location, it is 5 km away. Khandala have a pleasant weather. In Summer season, that is April-June, are quite mild, while Winter season, that is November-February, are cool. But, in Monsoon season, it rains heavily between June and September.
